THE SAINT ANDREW’S BACH SOCIETY PRESENTS:

2007 SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

The St. Andrew's Bach Society announces that after ten years as Artistic Director, Christina Jarvis is stepping down from the Summer Concert Series. Ms. Jarvis says, "I am deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to build up this series to provide a venue for my fellow musicians and a place for classical music lovers to spend a hot summer afternoon, and I'm also really grateful to all who worked to make this series a success. I've enjoyed myself immensely, but it is time for a new set of eyes, ears and hands to move it to the next level."

We proudly announce that the new Artistic Director is Lindabeth Binkley, Principal Oboe of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Binkley says, "Christina has created an outstanding intimate chamber music series at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church for both performers and audience. Having performed several times on the series, I have always been thrilled and inspired by the sense of community and the warm appreciation of the attending audience. As Artistic Director, it is my hope to expand on Christina's wonderful work with recitals that continue to highlight the best and brightest of the professional musicians living and working in Tucson."

The Summer 2007 season offerings begin Sunday, June 17, 3:00 PM at St. Andrews Episcopal Church (545 S. 5th Ave.) with the Tucson debut of Paloma Winds. Formed in 2006 as the quintet-in-residence at Music From Greer, a summer music festival in the White Mountains of Arizona, its core members are Deena Reedy (flute), Sara Kramer (oboe), Andrew Braden (clarinet), Rebecca Cain (bassoon), and Victor Valenzuela (horn). Performing the hot and sultry Aires Tropicales by Paquito D'Rivera, their program also includes works by Isang Yun, Amy Beach, Eugène Bozza, and G. F. Handel.

During July, the St. Andrew's Bach Society is pleased to introduce Tucson to Laura Moeckel, violist and sister to violinist and TSO Concertmaster Steven Moeckel. Solo Violist of the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra in Essen, Germany, she will be joining her brother in two recitals presented by the Saint Andrew's Bach Society at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church (2331 E. Adams St.). On Friday, July 13 at 7:00 PM, Steven and Laura will be joined by pianist Paula Fan to present "Sibling Sonatas", a program featuring sonatas by Elgar and Hindemith as well as the beautiful Mozart Duo for Violin and Viola and the Russian salon music of Glinka's "Pathetique" Trio. The second recital, "Brothers and Sisters," on Sunday, July 15 at 3:00 PM, brings together two talented pairs of siblings, Steven and Laura Moeckel and Tucson siblings Ellen (violin) and Robert (cello) Chamberlain with pianist Paula Fan to perform the dramatic and monumental piano quintets of Brahms and Elgar. Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church has graciously agreed to house these recitals for the Saint Andrew's Bach Society in order to provide an increased amount of seating for these concerts.

The series returns to St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (545 S. 5th Ave.) in August. On Sunday, August 5 at 3:00 PM, Saint Andrew's Bach Society presents vocal members from the Tucson Chamber Artists in "The Power of 8," a program of beautiful and inspiring choral music. Founded in 2003 and lead by Eric Holtan, the Tucson Chamber Artists is Tucson's only chamber choral ensemble comprised entirely of twenty-four professional choral artists. Eight members from this outstanding choir will be performing from the choir loft with the church's organ in works by J. S. Bach, Brahms, and Benjamin Britten.

Closing the series on Sunday, September 23, at 3:00 PM at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church will be an exotic recital entitled "Reveries for Oboe and Harp" by oboist and SABS Artistic Director Lindabeth Binkley and popular Tucson harpist Christine Vivona. The diverse and colorful program will feature various transcriptions of works by J. S. Bach, Marais, Debussy, Rachmaninoff, and Piazolla as well as works for this unique combination by Jolivet and Andres.
